KGHM begins the construction of a retail shaft. “The investment may take up to a dozen or so years and consume several billion zlotys”

KGHM Polska Miedź begins the construction of a new Retków mining shaft. The investment may take up to a dozen or so years and consume several billion zlotys – the Miedziowa company said on Tuesday.

Retków is one of three new shafts – next to GG -2 “Odra” and Gaworzyce – which KGHM intends to build. “These are strategic investments that will secure the continuity of production for the next decades and create jobs. Thus, we also strengthen our position in the mining sector,” said Zbigniew Bryja, cited in the Miedziowa company, vice president of the management board for the development of KGHM Polska Miedź

The construction of a new shaft began with a symbolic hat throw, which is to indicate the place where the work will start. Jacek Kulicki, President of the Management Board of Pebek SA (a company belonging to the KGHM group), emphasized that drilling machines will soon appear here. They will perform research holes to determine the geological profile and obtain the data necessary to design the shaft housing or deep technology.

According to the unwritten tradition, Zbigniew Bryja's symbolic throw of the hat, the Vice President of the Management Board of KGHM for Development, appointed the construction of a new ⚒️ Retków mining shaft.

“Although the hat sets the direction according to tradition, the final decision is based on hard data. The location of the shaft is the result of multi -stage analyzes – from geological tests to deposit development projects. Before the correct depth begins, the area crosses the increasingly denser grid of wells, thanks to which it is possible to get to know the deposit, hydrogeological conditions and strength parameters.” Jan Lubaś, head of the surface drilling unit in Pebeka SA, quoted in the announcement

As stated in the company's Miedziowa company, the process related to the construction of a new mining shaft is spread over several years, with expenditure of several billion zlotys depending on, among others from its purpose, depth and geological layers occurring in its planned location.

The main contractors of the investment are belonging to the KGHM Capital Group of Pebeka SA and Cuprum sp. Z OO of Research and Development Center. (PAP)
