The US refers to censorship in Poland. The delegation protests against DSA

The delegation of the US Congress will meet on Monday in Brussels with the supervising BIG Tech industry, deputy head of the European Commission, Henna Virkkunen. The subject of the conversation will be a report published by the Congress on “limiting” freedom of speech by the EU act on digital services (DSA). There was an example of “censorship” from Poland.

The report entitled “Threat of foreign censorship: how an act on EU digital services forces global censorship and violates American freedom of speech,” published on Friday the judicial committee in the Chamber of US representatives, headed by Republican Jim Jordan.

He will lead the Congress delegation, which will visit Brussels on Monday. American Congressmen are to meet with the Vice -President of the EC for technological sovereignty, Finek Virkkunen.

The report published by the Judiciary Commission focuses on the EU act of digital services (DSA) in force since February 2024. It imposes on large digital platforms and search engines requirements, including in terms of moderation of content, the use of algorithms, the fight against disinformation and hate speech and the determination of political content. The tightened duties rest on platforms and search engines, whose number of users exceeds 45 million per month. The list of regularly updated by the EC is primarily American companies such as Google, Amazon and Meta. DSA regulations also cover the Chinese Tiktok and Aliexpress platforms.

The American report emphasized that DSA is used to “censor political statements, including humor and satire.” According to the document, “European censors attack key political statements that are neither harmful nor illegal, trying to suppress a debate on topics such as immigration and the environment”, and “censorship is mostly one -sided, mainly aimed at conservatives.”

As we read on the Congress website, the judiciary committee obtained non -public documents, including email correspondence between the EC officials and technology companies, as well as internal documents from recent workshops on DSA from May 2025, which the EC organized with the participation of platform representatives.

The authors of the report also looked at the Member States, which – as emphasized – can benefit from the “accelerated censorship order” to the platforms provided for in DSA. According to the report, these orders are mainly limited to “statements on political topics”, and examples of countries that in this way apply to DSA provisions are Poland, Germany and France.

“The first example of censorship comes from Poland, where in November 2024 the National Research Institute (NASK), operating within the Ministry of Digitization, asked Tiktok to delete the entry,” we read in the document. According to him, the entry, which he was removing to the NASK TIKTOK, stated that “electric cars are neither ecological nor economical.”

The European Commission refutes allegations against DSA. According to the press spokesman of the EC Thomas Regnier, 99 percent Actions regarding moderation of content are taken by the online platforms themselves in accordance with their own conditions of using services, while cases of removal of content based on regulatory bodies are less than 0.001 percent.

Congressmen's visit will take place at the climax of trade talks between the EU and the USA. Washington raises the EU surplus in trade in goods. Brussels, on the other hand, draws attention to the US advantage when it comes to services, especially in the digital dimension.
