US President Donald Trump said on Monday in an interview with the British Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland that Great Britain has a “better trade agreement” from the USA than the EU, because he connects him with this country with a “special bond”. He explained that this was related to his mother, who was the Scottish.

The American leader said that “he wants this part of the world to lead well”, explaining why he introduced a 10 % duties on British products, and the EU, negotiated on Sunday with the chairwoman of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, 15 %. Customs tariffs that are to enter into force on August 1, to other countries are to be between 15 and 20 percent.
Despite these declarations, he did not take a position regarding the reduction of duties on British steel and aluminum, as Starmer sought. In the case of tariffs for pharmaceutical products, he expressed the opinion that their production should “return to America, where its place is.”

When asked about the dismissal of Scotch whiskey duties, he refused to answer directly, explaining that his opinion Scotland would generally benefit from the US agreement with Great Britain.
The president expressed support for the British government plan regarding the construction of three nuclear reactors, calling atomic energy “safe”. At the same time, he once again critically referred to wind energy, which may be associated with the fact that his golf resort in Turnberry is near windmills.
Journalists asked Trump about another visit to Great Britain, which is planned for September 17-19. The president responded with an attack on the mayor of London Sadiq Khan, describing him as a “disgusting man.” This thread quickly interrupted Starmer, saying that Khan was his friend.
At the same time, the US President emphasized that “he can't wait” for another journey to the United Kingdom, including meetings with King Karol III, about whom he said that he has known him for a long time and he is a “great man”.
Trump suggested that in September he could be invited to give a speech in the British parliament, despite the fact that his visit falls during a break in the meeting. This convergence is perceived in Great Britain as a convenient way to avoid a dilemma or invite him to give such a speech. Failure to show him would be perceived as an Afront, but the invitation would come across the opposition of some politicians.
– When it comes to parliament, if (Starmer) he wants me to speak, I will do it. But it does not have to be (during this state visit). It can be another time. Maybe we should leave it for another time – added the president.
