A fire broke out on Thursday at Lupuț House in Cizer, a historical monument in Sălaj county. The flames encompassed and made the entire museum ensemble and expanded to the neighborhood secondary school. According to ISU Sălaj, a person suffered burns on the face and was transported to the hospital.

“The Ministry of Culture was informed during the day of today about the outbreak of a fire in the town of Cizer, Sălaj county, which seriously affected a heritage objective of an invaluable value-Lupuț House in Cizer, a historical monument inscribed in the list of historical monuments, which is an integral part of an external house. Gymnasium in the immediate vicinity, affecting its building body ”, the Ministry of Culture said in a press release.

At the arrival of the crews, the fire manifested itself uncontrollable, being intended by the wind.

According to the quoted source, two of the annexes of the household, Oloirea and Găbănașul burned, and the monument house was partially affected.

Lupuț House, also known as “Horea's House”, dates from the eighteenth century and was restored in 2018, within a project funded by external funds. Although the goods inside were not part of the category of mobile heritage, being replicas of traditional objects, the ministry emphasizes that the documentary and symbolic value of the reconstituted household is a major one.

“The fire was generalized on an area of approximately 300 square meters and on the roof of a building of the local school in the locality, on an area of about 400 square meters,” said Jacodi Lucian Andrei, spokesman for ISU Sălaj, quoted by Europa FM. “A male victim was identified who suffered burns on the face and was transported to UPU Zalău.”

The Ministry of Culture, through the County Directorate for Culture Sălaj and the National Heritage Institute, announced that it is taking urgent measures to evaluate the damages and protect the affected heritage.
