ArcelorMittal Poland decided to temporarily stop the great furnace No. 3 in its branch in Dąbrowa Górnicza – the company said in a statement. The reason is difficult and still deteriorating market conditions.

“We are currently operating in extremely difficult conditions, which consists of a number of adverse factors. These include: very high energy prices, the fact that only European producers bear the costs of purchasing CO2 emissions under the EU ETS system and insufficient market protection mechanisms. Very large amounts of steel products at low prices come to Poland” – said Wojciech Kglach, general director and president of the board of ArcelorMittal Poland.
“In the last three months we have also noted a significant decrease in prices. All these factors have a negative impact on our margins, which means that Maintaining the work of two large furnaces is economically unjustified in these conditions” – he added.
As stated, the company is already starting preparatory work to safely stop the unit, which will last for several weeks. The company assumes that the stop will start in September and announces that it will be closely observing the market situation to restart the installation as soon as the conditions improve.
It was added that two large stoves are currently working in Dąbrowa Górnicza – No. 2 and No. 3. The last temporary exclusion of the Great Paid No. 3 took place in October 2022 and was also dictated by market conditions. The installation was restarted in January 2023 (PAP Biznes)
