The meeting in Istanbul will be the third from the beginning of the year. The previous rounds, conducted in May and June, did not bring a breakthrough in the matter of permanent suspension of weapons, although they ended with symbolic gestures – the exchange of prisoners and documents determining the preliminary conditions of the truce. However, both Kyiv and Moscow still present different positions on key issues regarding the future of the conflict.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Pieskov, asked on Tuesday about the expectations of conversations, admitted that he did not provide for groundbreaking results. He noted that Russia will continue to “pursue its interests” and strive to fulfill the goals set from the beginning of the invasion. The composition of the Russian delegation remains unchanged – it is still headed by President's adviser Vladimir Miedinski.

He is to chair the Ukrainian side with conversations Rust of Die, the current Minister of Defense, who earlier – as the secretary of the National Security Council and Defense – took part in negotiations with Russia.
Although the chances of a breakthrough are assessed as small, the meeting itself has a significant symbolic and diplomatic importance. Türkiye, as a conversation host, once again plays the role of an intermediary, seeking to maintain a communication channel between the parties, whose relations have been extremely tense for months.
