Controls at the borders with Germany and Lithuania will be extended – announced on Wednesday the head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak. The inspections – in accordance with the regulation of the Ministry of Interior and Administration – were to be carried out until August 5.

The Minister of the Interior, who was from his position, in an interview with TVN24 talked about security on the border related to the illegal crossing of the border. He pointed out that the element of the hybrid war waged by Russia is “using migrants as a weapon.”
“Migrants come to Moscow, have Russian visas, are brought to the Polish border by buses, Belarusian services instruct them, what to do, (…) and try to push to Poland. This is treating people (…) as a weapon” – emphasized Siemoniak.
That is why – he added – state authorities must use all means to fight it.
The minister confirmed that controls at the borders with Germany and Lithuania will be extended. “We introduced them for 30 days, because this is what the Schengen Border Code says – you can introduce them to the first decision. They will definitely be extended,” said Siemoniak.
He noted that over 70 detention showed the effectiveness of the Border Guard supported by the army and police.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Wednesday that the current head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration Tomasz Siemoniak will become a minister responsible for the coordination of special services, as well as for fighting illegal migration.
On July 7, Poland restored temporary controls at the borders with Germany and Lithuania, during which Border Guard officers, supported by the police and WOT soldiers, can stop selected vehicles for random control. Pursuant to the Regulation of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the inspections will be carried out until August 5.
There are 52 border crossings on the border with Germany; Permanent inspections are carried out in 16 places. According to the government, this is necessary to reduce the uncontrolled flow of migrants. (PAP)
