The workers interrupted the outdoor work, and the tourists were looking for the shadow on Tuesday, while Greece passes under the third wave of summer heat, and the rising temperatures include the entire region of the Balkans, feeding Vegetation fires in Albania, Ekathimerini reports.

Greece, which attracts tens of millions of tourists every year, has always had hot and dried summers. But in recent years, climatic changes have led to longer and more intense heat waves, as well as devastating fires and floods.

Couriers, those who deliver home food and construction workers from the extended area of the Capital Athens and other regions were among those who ordered on Tuesday to interrupt the work from noon until 5:00 pm, as Mercury was to climb thermometers up to 43 degrees Celsius.

The Ministry of Labor also advised employees with health problems to work remotely, to avoid thermal stress.

In front of the parliament building in the center of Athens, a soldier deleted the sweat on the face of a presidential guard with a towel. Tourists from Athens, one of the most densely populated European capitals, located in a plain surrounded by mountains, were looking for restaurants and shops with air conditioning, and some said they prefer to stay in the middle of the day.

Greece closed the acropola again on Tuesday due to heat

The authorities have announced that the Acropola, on a rocky hill almost devoid of shadow and the most visited ancient site in Greece, will be closed for five hours, at noon, both on Tuesday and Wednesday, a frequent measure when temperatures rise.

The heat wave will continue until Sunday, according to the Greek meteorological service.

The hot heat also included neighboring Bulgaria on Tuesday, the authorities urging companies to offer free water and reduce physical activities during high risk hours.

In Montenegro, the main roads were crowded, as many went to the beaches to escape the heat.

In Albania, the firefighters, helped by four aircraft sent from Italy and Greece, fought against two vegetation fires: one in a national park in the north of the country, and another near the village of Dukat, in the southwest.

Large parts of Western Europe were affected last month by another severe heat wave, which caused numerous deaths and triggered forest fires and health alerts throughout the region.

Globally, the year 2024 was the hottest year ever recorded since the beginning of meteorological measurements, with temperatures that first exceeded 1.5 degrees Celsius above the levels of the pre -industrial period.

A study published last week showed that the temperature on the soil surface around Athens increased in some places by up to 10 degrees Celsius in July 2024, after the fires destroyed the vegetation.
