Hołownia during the Tuesday press conference in the Sejm reported that he had prepared a project that concerns “the order by the marshal, the possibility of examining the MP A breat with a breathalyzer in the plenary hall during the meeting.” He added that he intends to submit this project to a discussion at a sitting of the Presidium of the Sejm and then report.

– I am aware that the voices in this matter were very different – said Hołownia. He added that in his opinion it is a “very sensitive matter”, which concerns the interference in a parliamentary inviolability, which is why you cannot exaggerate in this matter.

Hołownia reminded that since he plays the role of the Speaker of the Sejm, It has already been “several times” that MPs under the influence of alcohol were in the plenary hall.

The marshal cannot be helpless, also against, let's say, indignation in the public – said Hołownia. – If you talk to people, they say directly how you drink and come to work, you fly out of work. Nobody asks you for your opinion, and here status, inviolability and you don't know what else – he added.

A draft act enabling in justified cases to study MPs with breathalyzer. Hołownia announced in March this year.

It was a consequence of the events of February, when the Confederation MP Ryszard Wilk was asked from the Sejm meeting room due to visible indisposition. For the incident, he was punished with taking one parliamentary diet. The confederation suspended him for an indefinite period.

“I commissioned the Law Firm (Sejm) to prepare solutions that will allow MPs to examine the breathalyzer. There is no consent to the piglets. We are finishing a long tradition of tolerating the presence of drunk MPs,” wrote the Sejm Marshal on Platform X. (PAP)
