The EU will make stocks of critical minerals against the background of growing geopolitical risks

The European Union intends to make critical mineral stocks, as a precautionary measure against potential interruptions in supply due to geopolitical tensions, reported Financial Times, citing a document of the European Commission, reports Reuters.
“The EU is experiencing an increasingly complex and damaged risks, marked by increasing geopolitical tensions, including conflicts, increasing impact of climate change, environmental degradation and hybrid and cyber threats,” the project prepared by the Commission, according to FT, shows.
The document at the same time warns that the environment with increased risk has “The increased activity of hackers, cyber criminals and groups sponsored by states”.
The European Commission has not yet responded to a Reuters request for a comment.
The document project, to be published next week and which may be subject to changes, states that there is “a limited common understanding regarding the essential goods necessary for the crisis preparation in the context of a rapidly evolving risks,” reports the Financial Times newspaper.
In March, the European Commission presented the EU Union training strategy, urging the Member States to strengthen the stocks of essential equipment and encouraging citizens to make essential supplies for at least 72 hours in case of emergency.
The strategy was designed to prepare the EU for risks such as natural disasters, cyber attacks and geopolitical crises, including the possibility of armed aggression against EU countries.
