The tragic death of footballer Diogo Jota became not only the world of sport. The news of the disappearance of the player for only 28 years has grieved fans from Liverpool and around the world, but also high-ranking officials paid tribute to the footballer who had 49 selections in the Portugal national.
“The news of Diogo Jota's death, a athlete who honored the name of Portugal, and his brother is unexpected and tragic,” said Portuguese Prime Minister Luis Montenegro, according to news.ro.
The prime minister transmitted the “deepest condolences” to the family and brothers in a post on social networks.
“It is a sad day for football and national and international sport,” he added.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer sent condolences to friends and family of Diogo Jota, after being asked about Liverpool's footballer at a press conference.
“Allow me to start with Jota, because this is devastating news. I am sure I speak on behalf of everyone saying that our first thoughts will be with his family and his friends in particular. There are millions of fans of Liverpool, but also football fans and people who are not fans who will also be affected by this,” said Starmer.
“It is devastating and very important to consider how difficult this period will be for his friends and family,” added the head of the London government.
