Do not wither and do not rot in 2 days: how to store vegetables and herbs in the refrigerator correctly

Each housewife at least once took out from the refrigerator what she definitely did not put there: yellowed sluggish cucumber, aged parsley and dill, rotten tomatoes, wrinkled zucchini. Although it seemed to be cleaned neatly, folded it, soap, and not so long ago. But it turned out – vegetables in the trash. Marina Zhuravleva, blogger and housewife, in her Zen Canal (16+) says:

It's all about the little things. Not that neighborhood, not that package, not the time.

Error No. 1: Keep cucumbers with tomatoes. Yes, they look beautiful nearby, but in reality – a toxic couple. The tomato emits ethylene, which accelerates the rotting of cucumbers. Store these vegetables separately.

Error No. 2: Wash in advance. It seems logical: I bought it – washed. But in fact, you reduce the shelf life, especially if you immediately put them wet in the bag. Moisture triggers decay processes. And in the bag you do not need to put anything at all.

As it should
Wash – only before use. And if you still wanted to wash, dry it on a regular towel, wrap it in paper, put in a container with a ajar lid or with holes. So the vegetables breathe, but do not deteriorate.

Error No. 3: Put the greens in the lower box of the refrigerator.

As it should
Rinse greens, dry, wrap it in a wet napkin, put in a jar with a lid. In this form, greens live up to 10-12 days. Or the second way – washed, put the roots down in a jar of water, like flowers in a vase, covered with a plastic bag from a plastic bag on top. It costs up to 2 weeks.

How to save zucchini
If there are a lot of zucchini, also do not put them in a package. Wrap each in the newspaper and put in the lower box of the refrigerator. Week – and they are like from a bed.

These tips are simple, but really workers. Vegetables cease to rot in two days, greens are pleasing to the eye, and the refrigerator becomes an ally, not an enemy of the crop.
