US President Donald Trump said in an interview on Sunday by Fox News, that he found a buyer for the Tiktok app, more precisely “a group of very rich people.” Trump said he would reveal their identity in about two weeks, notes Reuters.
In the interview for the show “Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo”, Washington leader said that the transaction he is preparing may need China's approval to go further and showed confident that Chinese President XI Jinping will accept it.
Earlier this month, the US president extended the term by Chinese by the US to sell Tiktok assets in the United States by September 17, although the legislation stipulates that, in the absence of significant progress, the application should be sold or closed.
In the spring, an agreement had been prepared in which the Tiktok activity in the United States was to be taken over by a new company, registered in the US and owned mostly by American investors. However, the discussions were suspended after China understood that it would not approve the transaction, in reaction to Donald Trump's decision to impose high customs rates for Chinese products.
“We have a buyer for Tiktok, by the way,” said Trump. “I think that China will probably be needed. And I think President XI will grant her.”
A law adopted in the United States in 2024 required Tiktok to cease its activity until January 19, if Bytedance did not complete the sale of US assets or not demonstrate significant progress in this regard.
Donald Trump, who claims that the application helped to win the support of young voters in the November presidential elections, has extended the term three times.
