The head of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service had a telephone conversation with the CIA director, in the context of diplomatic approach between Washington and Moscow

The director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Narâșkin, announced on Sunday that he had a telephone conversation with the director of the American Information Agency (CIA), John Ratcliffe, a new discussion between the two, after a call from March, in full closeness between Moscow and Washington, according to AFP.

“We had a telephone conversation with my American counterpart and we agreed to call ourselves at any time to discuss issues that interest us,” said Narâșkin for Russian State Television, without providing more information.

Narâșkin, a close relative of President Vladimir Putin, and Ratcliffe, also discussed on March 11, their first contact known after returning to Donald Trump's White House.

The two official calls between SVR and CIA chiefs took place at a time when Moscow and Washington began heating their diplomatic relations, despite the conflict in Ukraine, in which the Americans support Kiev.

However, there are numerous disagreements between Moscow and Washington, after many years of extreme tensions.

Americans continue, for example, to provide Kiev essential information to Ukrainian forces, after more than three years of large -scale offensive of the Russian army.

In March, Sergei Narâșkin and John Ratcliffe “agreed to maintain regular contacts”, according to a Russian statement quoted by the TASS State Agency.

In parallel, Russia has announced that its troops have captured the village of Novukraiinka, in the Donetk region of eastern Ukraine, Russian Novosti told the Russian News. Reuters mentions that he could not verify this information independently.
