The Brazilian Supreme Court ruled that social networking platforms would be legally responsible for the content posted by users – the AP agency said on Friday. This may exacerbate the dispute with the US authorities, which threatened with sanctions for censorship of Americans' statements.

The Thursday ruling, followed by eight of 11 judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court, will also force internet giants such as Google, Meta or Tiktok, to actively monitor content and combat hate speech, racism, racism, incentives to violence and “anti -democratic activities”.
The decision is to enter into force in the coming weeks and means an exacerbation of regulations, which until now forced the platforms to remove content only after the court issued relevant orders. In practice, even such orders were often not observed – AP said.
The Financial Times emphasizes that the Supreme Court's decision may exacerbate the dispute between the US authorities and the administration of the US President Donald Trump, which threatened to impose visa sanctions on officials responsible for limiting freedom of speech and censorship of American companies and citizens.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated in May that Washington is considering sanctions of one of the judges of the Brazilian Supreme Court, Alexandre de Moraes, by virtue of the so -called Magnitian law, which allows punishment for corruption and violation of human rights. Last year, De Moraes temporarily blocked the activity in Brazil of the X website, belonging to Elon Musk, who refused to perform a court order to suspend accounts covered by proceedings regarding the distribution of disinformation.
