Orange code of heat in half of the country: Temperatures ascend to 40 degrees and UV index becomes dangerous

Meteorologists from the National Meteorological Administration (ANM) issued an orange code of heat, valid from tomorrow until Friday morning, for Banat, Oltenia and the southern half of Muntenia, including for Bucharest and Ilfov county. The heat wave will intensify and the temperature-humidity index will exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

Between June 26, at 10 – 27, 10 o'clock, in Banat, Oltenia and the southern half of Muntenia, the maximum temperatures will reach 38-40 degrees Celsius, and the night minimums will be maintained between 20 and 24 degrees, thus specifying a tropical night, with the thermal discomfort even after the darkness.

Also until Friday morning, a yellow code of heat is in force for Crișana, southwest and southern Transylvania, north and northeast of Muntenia, Dobrogea and southern Moldova. In these areas, the heat wave will continue, with maximum temperatures between 35 and 37 degrees and minimums between 17 and 20 degrees. The temperature-humidity index (ITU) will easily exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

Warning on UV radiation on the coast

On the coast, the specialists warn that the UV index has reached dangerous levels, between 9 and 10 units, which can cause burns in just a few minutes of sun exposure. It is recommended to avoid direct exposure between 11:00 and 17:00, as well as wearing light clothes, hats and the use of sunscreen.

Even though current warnings expire on Friday at 10:00, meteorologists announce that the heat wave will persist in most of the country and in the coming days.

According to meteorologists, it will be heat in Banat, Crișana, Oltenia, Muntenia, South and Partial Center of Moldova, Continental and Local Dobrogea in Transylvania, areas where thermal discomfort will be high, and the temperature-humidity index (ITU) will easily exceed the critical threshold of 80 units.

The maximum temperatures will be between 28 and 38 degrees, with the lowest values ​​in the extreme north of the coast and the highest in the west and south of Oltenia.
