President Duda about NATO and energy in Poland. Applications from the RBN meeting


President Andrzej Duda during Wednesday's meeting emphasized that the issue of unity within NATO, American presence in Europe and the support of the Euro -Atlantic ambitions of Ukraine will dominate conversations at the upcoming peak of the alliance. The subject of RBN was also influenced by energy security matters, including progress in the construction of a Polish nuclear power plant and a growing share of renewable energy sources in the domestic energy mix.
Duda began a meeting with a declaration that Poland remains unwavering in the support of Ukraine's aspirations, which relate to membership in the North Atlantic Alliance and strengthening cooperation with the Western Community. The president indicated that stability NATO and transatlantic ties are crucial for the security of the regionexplaining that there are no signals about the reduction of American presence in Europe.
– “We will definitely want (…) that this unity be preserved – said Duda, adding that Poland focuses on deeper cooperation within NATO. At the same time he pointed out that the formula of increasing defense expenditure proposed by the secretary general Marek Marek Rutta – 3.5 percent GDP – It is acceptable for Poland.
In the face of the upcoming maneuvers of Russia and Belarus, “Zapad 2025”, Duda drew attention to their potential threat, reminding that the exercises organized four years ago were a precedent for the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Energy on the fire of discussion
The second basic subject of the meeting were the challenges related to power engineering. The president pointed to delays in the implementation of the planned nuclear power plant, the first block of which was to be launched in 2036, as well as the ambiguity of the strategy regarding renewable energy sources.
– “On the one hand, the Ministry of Industry is planning investments in atomic power plants, which is the only right road, and to the other, the Ministry of Climate and Environment puts emphasis on the development of renewable energy,” Duda noted, emphasizing the need to harmonize government activities in the energy sector. Among the possibilities that Poland is considering is the use of small modular reactors (SMR), assessed as a future technological solution.
Duda emphasized that the coherence of the national approach to energy is crucial for the stability of the network and Poland's long -term energy security.
A common view of security
“I hope that today's meeting will show our citizens that we can act above the divisions in the most important matters for safety,” said the president at the beginning of the RBN.
At the meeting there were, among others Donald Tusk, Szymon Hołownia, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, as well as representatives of the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Interior and Administration and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Chief of the General Staff of the Polish Army General Wiesław Kukuła, and Karol Nawrocki, President of Elekt. Representatives of climate ministries, state assets and industry also joined – due to the energy subject raised during the meeting.
RBN as a pillar of dialogue
The National Security Council, which is the president's advisory body, remains a place of strategic conversations about key internal and international challenges. The previous meeting took place on February 24 this year, commemorating the third anniversary of Russian aggression to Ukraine.
