A former lawyer of the drug dealer Joaquin “Chapo” Guzman was chosen judge in Mexico in the elections, unique in the world, of the entire magistrates, who also led to the election of an indigenous community as president of the Supreme Court, notes AFP.

She was chosen judge in Ciudad Juarez (North), at the border with the United States, according to the results of 99.6% of votes published on Tuesday.

His controversial candidacy is one of the symbols of these elections, as well as the choice of Hugo Aguilar, a lawyer of mixed (south) mixed origin, at the Presidency of the Supreme Court.

In total, Mexican voters were called to choose on June 1, 881 federal judges, of which nine members of the Supreme Court, and about 1,800 in 19 of the 32 states. Complementary elections are scheduled for 2027.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum welcomed 'the total success' of these elections, despite a voting presence of only 13%, ie about 13 million voters from nearly 100 million registered voters.
