Federal prosecutors have announced that Dr. Salvador Plasencia, the doctor accused of providing Ketamine to actor Matthew Perry, will plead guilty to four charges for distributing the controlled substance.
Matthew Perry, famous for the role of Chandler Bing in the Friends series, was found dead in his Jacuzzi in Los Angeles in October 2023. He was 54. Although the actor had spoken openly about his problems with depression and addiction, the news of his death shocked fans around the world.
Ketamine injections
In the documents submitted by the prosecutors, it is shown that the Plasencia personally managed Ketamine to Perry, both at his home and in a parking lot at the Long Beach aquarium, informs the BBC.
Moreover, the doctor sold to the actor's assistant, and she charged in this case, additional vials and learned how to administer the drug. Prosecutors claim that between September 30 and October 12, 2023, Plasencia sold 20 ampoules of ketamine (5 ml each, a concentration of 100 mg/ml), less than a complete vial of pills and more syringes.
According to some text messages presented in the investigation, Dr. Plasencia referred to the actor as an “idiot” and asked how much he would be willing to pay for medicines. These messages were revealed by Dr. Mark Chavez, another doctor involved in the file, who has already pleaded.
A network of undercover traffic
Dr. Plasencia is one of the five people accused of being part of an underground network of traffickers and medical staff who provided Ketamine to Matthew Perry. The actor had a legal recipe for this substance, used in the treatment of depression, but, according to investigators, demanded and consumed more than he had been prescribed.
The plea of guilt exposes the doctor to a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison. Authorities have announced that he was going to appear before the court in the coming weeks.
