Spain introduces a transit visa for citizens of the Russian Federation. The media explained what it is fraught with for them

“For citizens of the Russian Federation having ordinary passports, for transit through the international zones of Spanish airports, it is necessary to have an airport transit visa (TAP). This measure will enter into force on July 12, 2025,” the report said.

The Foreign Ministry explains that TAP allows transit in the international zone of airports of the Schengen zone, but does not allow entry into the territory of 27 countries of the Schengen agreement.

The Russian “Agency. News” notes that after the beginning of the full -scale invasion of the Russian Federation to Ukraine in February 2022, visa -free transit for Russians was banned at least three countries: the Czech Republic, Great Britain and Spain.

If there is a valid Schengen visa, Russians will not need a transit visa.

The founder of the Ark project (RF) Anastasia Burakova suggests that the decision of the Spanish authorities may be part of the general response of the European Union to the growth of illegal migration, and in the future, the situation with visa requirements for Russians in the EU will deteriorate.

“Transit visas to Spain can complicate the life of those who fly from Russia to Latin America. For Russians, such a route looks logical when they fly from other states that have a visa -free regime with Russia,” she said.

“Agency. News” draws attention to the fact that in 2024 Spain first took second place among the EU countries in the number of asylum petitioners.
