Poland can join the global AI leaders. Specialists are the main resource of Poland

Poland may soon join the group of world leaders in the area of artificial intelligence – experts assess and emphasize that this is possible within two or three years. However, it is important to quickly take action in this direction as a state. In this context, the “artificial intelligence policy in Poland” and the launch of the Fund for the Development of Artificial Intelligence, which, despite earlier announcements, has still not been created in this context. The main resource of Poland are specialists in AI.

– As Poland, we have a chance to join global leaders in the area of artificial intelligence, but we must do it as soon as possible – we must make the right decision as a country. We no longer have a chance to race with the largest, we also do not have such resources and potential as the United States or China, but our great chance and potential is that we have great scientists and experts in AI in Poland – says Newseria agency Joanna Szczegielniak, president of the Connecting The Future Foundation, during the Women in Techen Summit 2025 conference.
– They conquer the world, but we want to bring them back here so that they can work for our country. If we choose well -defined areas of specialization, then we have a chance to even become a world leader in two or three years. Artificial intelligence is a very young field and it develops quickly dynamically, so we have such a chance.
The Ministry of Digitization also sees such opportunities, which at the beginning of June this year. published a draft new “Artificial Intelligence Development Policy in Poland until 2030” and made available to public consultations (they will last until July 1, 2025). According to the ministry, until 2030, Poland should be among the 10-20 most advanced countries in the world in the AI (Tortoise Ai Index, Stanford Hai, Government Ai Readiness Index) rankings. The new AI policy assumes, among others A strong AI ecosystem – combining science, administration, business and civil society in order to create legal, technological, financial and educational conditions that will enable AI to develop cooperation and trust. In addition, the ministry wants to focus on the development of competences, supporting research and implementation, as well as investments in talents, and thus increase productivity and create new jobs.
– We need the National “Development of Artificial Intelligence in Poland”. The last one was established in 2020, and since then a lot has changed, this is the era before Chatagpt – emphasizes Joanna Szczegielniak. – This is a road map for our development, so we need it very urgently.
As indicated in the new project, the basis for growth in the AI area is the development of competence, supporting research and implementation, investments in talents. The document assumes support for the education of specialists and the wide application of artificial intelligence in the strategic sectors to increase productivity and create new jobs.
– We are one of the best European countries that educate very well in science. An example of this are our successes in the international arena in mathematical olympiads and artificial intelligence. For 30 years, Poland has been winning these competitions, so it already shows what great potential we have in this area – emphasizes the president of the Connecting The Future Foundation.
For example, last year at the International Artificial Intelligence Olympics in Bulgaria (IOAI 2024), the Polish South team (consisting of school students from Wrocław and Rzeszów) was on the podium with two gold medals. The second team, Poland North, won two browns. Also at last year's 63th International Mathematical Olympics in Oslo, young mathematicians won four silver and two bronze medals for Poland. This is the most prestigious mathematical competition for high school students.
– To join the group of global leaders in the area of artificial intelligence, we need a lot of support from the public sector from the government. He should be an umbrella for all development, where through a system of incentives, various types of programs will stimulate the development of both science and business. There should be a cooperation platform for business with science and then we will actually have additional power to become one of the global players – says Joanna Szczegielniak.
In her opinion, the long -announced Fund for the Development of Artificial Intelligence should be created as soon as possible due to the fact that in terms of funds allocated for this purpose, we remain far behind compared to other countries.
– Other countries have been intended for the development of artificial intelligence for many years, unfortunately we are all the time at the planning stage. This should change as soon as possible, because the world will not wait for us, now there is our moment, time for Poland so important historically, because such a chance is now found for the first time in 230 years, so since the partitions. If we do not use it now, then it will be very difficult – explains the president of the Connecting The Future Foundation.
The project of the Ministry of Digitization shows that, according to the analysis of the Polish Economic Institute, the Artificial Intelligence Working Group at the Ministry of Digitization (GRAI) and other reports and strategic documents today the greatest potential for the development of artificial intelligence and implementation in Poland show sectors of the economy in the area of: energy, e-commerce, double-application products, biomedtech, services, services. financial and transport, forwarding and logistics.
The authors of “Polityka …” emphasize that for each of these sectors a dedicated sector policy will be developed in cooperation with the Ministry of Development and Technology and the relevant ministries. Such documents will include Analysis of the needs of a given sector in the AI implementation area, an indication of specific areas where AI can bring the greatest value in a given sector, determining a framework for sharing data between stakeholders in a given sector or support instruments for the development and implementation of AI in a given sector.
