A man of Romanian citizenship was sentenced to four years in prison by the Zalaegerszeg, western Hungary, for human trafficking. The information was transmitted on Tuesday by the Hungarian Agency MTI, citing a final decision, according to AGERPRES.
According to the Court's spokesman, Judit Mentes, the Romanian illegally transported migrants to Hungary and other states of the European Union between October 22 and November 10, 2024.
Received order and money from an unidentified person
According to official statements, the man acted at the directions of an unidentified person so far. It took over migrants, especially Syrians and Palestinians, which they transport to the Hungarian-Austrian and Hungarian-Slovenian borders.
The illegal migrants could continue on foot, crossing the “green” border, explained Judit Mentes.
For each successful transport, the Romanian was paid for 1,000 euros, the spokesman added.
Forbidden in Hungary for eight years
In addition to the prison sentence, the court has decided to prohibit access to Hungary for a period of eight years. The decision is final.
