The administration of US President Donald Trump redirected 20,000 to the Middle East. Missiles intended for Ukraine to fight Russian drones – said the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelnski in a conversation with American television ABC News published on Sunday.
As he reported, during the presidency of Joe Biden Ukraine and the US agreed that 20,000 would go to Kiev. Rockets needed to knock down Shaad drones, which Russia attacks Ukraine. “It wasn't expensive, but it was a special technology,” he continued.
He emphasized that Ukraine was counting on the supply of these missiles, but in recent days she learned that the US had redirected them to the Middle East.
On Wednesday, the American “Wall Street Journal” wrote that the US President's administration redirects key fumes to rockets, intended for Ukraine, to American forces in the Middle East. This step testifies to the decreasing commitment of the Pentagon in defense of Ukraine – said “WSJ”.
Proponents of this decision emphasize that the Pentagon has the opportunity to take such actions under the Act on extraordinary military expenditure adopted last year. On the other hand, pro -Ukrainian members of the Congress point out that the Pentagon did not explain what effect this step will have for Ukrainian defense or whether the air forces demand is urgent.
In an almost hour conversation with ABC, Zełenski also assessed, among others, that “in current conditions it is impossible for Putin to win this war.” However, this may happen if the West suspends support for Kiev. “Putin can only win if it is a very long, many years of war and if there is no sanctions,” he emphasized. He also noted that without American support, losses on the Ukrainian side would increase significantly.
Donald Trump believes – as he also said in public – that Russia will win a war with Ukraine, “said Zelanski, assessing that” this is not a victory when you lose a million (lives) of human to get several thousand kilometers of territory. “
Zełenski also added that “he would like to believe in it” that his relations with the US president improved after meeting face -to -face in April in the Vatican. He regretted that there was not enough contact with Trump. “Fifteen minutes in the Vatican, face to face, did more (to build trust) than meeting many people present in the oval office,” he admitted, referring to the quarrels of leaders in the White House in February.
The Ukrainian president noted that he did not agree with Trump's opinion that Vladimir Putin wants peace. “With all due respect to President Trump, of course I think that this is his personal sentence. (…) I am convinced that Putin does not want to end this war. In his head it is impossible to end this war without the defeat of Ukraine,” he added.
Zielnski also referred to the surgery of the Ukrainian special forces with the cryptronism “Spider”, in which the drones were attacked by Russian military airports. “We must prepare such plans. And we do not stop (do it), because we do not know what to expect from the Russians the next day,” he added.
“We approached very close to the point where you can force Russia to end or at least to stop the war. We feel it” – emphasized the President of Ukraine. “Putin does not want to end the war, but he can do it thanks to the pressure of partners,” he concluded.
