The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline was a mistake – said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz on Thursday during a meeting with US President Donald Trump in the White House. Trump claimed that he was the one who stopped the gas pipeline.

Merz recognized the Russian-German gas pipeline as an error during the exchange of sentences with Trump about Nord Stream 2. The US president referred to the sanctions he imposed on the gas pipeline during his first term as an example that he is hard towards Russia. At one point, the German chancellor interjected that “this (Nordstream) was a mistake”.
“It was a mistake because I said Angela: +Well, wait, we spend enough money to defend you against Russia, and you give Russia billions of dollars a month. What is this arrangement? But you said it better than anyone else,” said Trump, turning to Merz.
Trump also said that “he was the one who stopped” Nord Stream and claimed that “no one in this room knew anything about Nord Stream 2”. (PAP)
