Hungary: “The disaster at Salina Praid, caused by human negligence.” The neighboring state provides support to Romania

Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban, Gergely Gulyas, said on Wednesday, June 4, that human negligence is “clearly” at the origin of the Praid Salina disaster. According to him, the tragedy could have been avoided if the stream above the salt mine had been diverted on time.

“This was a huge human negligence,” Gulyas stressed in a government press briefing, adding that the identification of the responsible ones rests with the Romanian authorities. At the same time, the Budapest government is prepared to provide all possible support, according to MTI, according to Agerpres.
In the Government meeting on Wednesday, the natural disasters in the Szekler County, and the president of the Harghita County Council, Botond Barna Biro, presented a detailed information. Prime Minister Viktor Orban met with him in Budapest, demanding an assessment of the saline situation and a list of concrete measures through which Hungary could intervene.
“Everyone considers that part of the Hungarian world is in danger (…) in a deadly danger,” Orban said. In turn, Biro pointed out that the subsistence means of the entire community in Praid are threatened.
The Hungarian government is in contact with the UDMR and the Harghita County Council and has sent experts in the management of water and disasters to the area, as well as scientists involved in the Space Geodesic Monitoring Program. At the same time, Lorinc Nacsa, Secretary of State for Policies for Hungarians across borders, represents the Hungarian government on the spot.
The Budapest executive has allocated an emergency aid of 10 million forint (about 25,000 euros), and the organization Hungarian aid has launched a fundraising campaign. Prime Minister Orban has announced that the Government will double the amount collected through this campaign.
