The usual blood tests, made periodically, can differentiate between an early diagnosis and a disease discovered too late. It is a simple but essential gesture, especially for people over 65, the most vulnerable category in the face of conditions such as blood cancers.

Blood analyzes play two key roles:

  1. Early detection of health problems, including incipient forms of cancer, when treatment can be much more effective.
  2. Monitoring a disease already diagnosed, to evaluate the efficiency of the treatment and to adapt the therapeutic intervention in real time.

“To do your analysis regularly means care for you and your loved ones. It is the first step towards prevention. If we want Romania to have fewer late diagnoses and more survival stories, we must start with simple things: regular blood controls and analysis,” says Cezar Irimia, the president of the world of the world.

Blood cancers such as leukemia, lymphoma and multiple myeloma affect the bone marrow, blood and lymphatic system. Although there are serious diseases, medical advances in the world and the EU of the last decades today offer patients more chances than ever.

Blood tests, a basic tool

Romania, although on the right track, still has to recover in terms of patients access to the latest treatment variants.

“In the last 20-30 years, we have made remarkable progress in understanding the biology of hematological cancers. This has allowed the identification of important molecular targets and the development of personalized therapies, which significantly increase the chances of survival. Fortunately, many of these treatments are already available and reimbursed in Romania,” says Prof. Dr. Daniel Coriu.

These progress would not be possible without the correct diagnosis and in time, and in this process, blood tests remain a basic tool.

For some of patients with blood cancers, hematopoietic stem cell transplant is the only option for curative treatment. For these people, the existence of a compatible donor in the National Register of Voluntary Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donator can mean the chance at life.

“Today, on the World Day of Blood Cancer, we stop for a few moments from the daily rate to honor the struggle of those who face these ruthless diseases. As an institution, we are deeply involved in promoting the donation of hematopoietic stem cells and we actively involve for the extension of the register. Become the ambassadors of the good. Arghișan, director of the National Register of volunteer donors of hematopiet stem cells.
