Lorenzo Musetti (23 years old, 7 ATP) defeated Frances Tiafoe (27 years, 16 ATP), score 6-2, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2, and qualified in the Roland Garros semifinals at the end of a match in which it could have been disqualified because it hit the ball a line referee.

After 2 hours and 50 minutes of play on the Philippe-Catrier arena in Paris, Lorenzo Musetti won in front of Frances Tiafoe and advanced in the penultimate act of Roland Garros. However, the duel between Italian and American recorded an incident that could have disqualified Musetti.

Lorenzo Musetti accidentally hit a line referee

While preparing for the service, the 23 -year -old player accidentally hit a line with the ball in the neck area. Musetti put his leg lightly in a ball and she hit one of the women who worked as a line referee at Roland Garros.

He immediately noticed where he landed the ball hit by him and straightened to that woman, giving her apologies. There were no consequences, the match was not interrupted, and Musetti was not sanctioned, receiving only a warning.

The Philippe-Catrier incident brought them to the Serbs from Sportal. Remember a situation at the US Open 2020, when the reaction was different. Then, in the finals, Novak Djokovic accidentally hit a line referee and was disqualified.

At the 6-5 score for Pablo Carreno Busta, the Serb hit a ball with a rocket and she hit Laura Clark, a line referee, who collapsed and had difficulty breathing. Even though the blow was accidental, Djokovic was disqualified and the Iberian advanced in the quarterfinals of the Flushing Meadows tournament.

Although the intensity of the blows was different, Musetti's situation has already caused more reactions on fans that require an explanation for the fact that the world number was not disqualified as it had happened with Djokovic in 2020.

In the semi -final Roland Garros, Lorenzo Musetti will duel Either with Tommy Paul (28 years old, 12 ATP) or Carlos Alcaraz (22 years old, 2 ATP). The match between the two will start at 9:15 pm.
