In the assessment of the embassy, these factors are participation in demonstrations, being near them, “as well as specific activity in social media”. The embassy added that the Georgian authorities have the right to assess the risk at the entrance of a foreigner, and the decision to refuse entry may also apply to holders of a valid residence permit.

The embassy emphasized that participation and even alleged participation in demonstrations may be associated with foreigners with “high bangs, and re -entering Georgia may be associated with the need to pay immediate payment“.

A similar warning was also issued by the French Embassy on the same day – said Civil Georgia, adding that both messages appeared after a year of incidents in which foreigners, including journalists, activists, human rights defenders and politicians were turned back from the Georgian border under a vague pretext “other cases provided in Georgian legislation”.

According to the portal, an important context is the desire to adopt a package of laws related to immigration control. The proposed solutions predict that a foreigner could be expelled from Georgia for administrative offenses, including disobedience to the police. “The Ministry of the Interior suggested that foreign protests will be special goals of these changes,” said Civil Georgia.

The Belsat portal emphasized that the cases of refusal to enter foreigners, including citizens of European Union countries, have intensified in recent months. They affected different people, a total of an employee of the European Union representative office.

According to the portal, “especially often with difficulties at the entrance to Georgia, people associated with reporting protests, activities for human rights or criticism of the authorities meet.” The portal emphasized that independent journalists and opposition activists from Russia, Belarus and Azerbaijan regularly struggle with similar treatment.

Official statistics regarding refusal to enter Georgia are not published. It is only known that in March 2025 97 foreigners were expelled from the country. (PAP)
