Although a large part of Donald Trump's duties has still not entered into force, global companies have lost $ 33 billion through them so far – according to the analysis carried out by the Reuters agency. This sum applies only to 56 international corporations.

32 American companies from the S & P500 index, 21 Japanese corporations included in Nikkei225 and 3 European companies belonging to Stoxx600, lost a total of $ 33 billion due to lost sales and higher costs. Such conclusions emerge from the analysis of corporate documents, statements, conference transcription and conversations with the media, collected by the Reuters agency.

“In the United States, Asia and Europe, companies such as Apple, Ford, Porsche and Sony have reduced their profits or withdrew from their publication, and the vast majority claims that the unpredictable nature of Trump's commercial policy prevented the exact estimation of costs,” said in the report.

According to Reuters, at least 42 companies have reduced their forecasts, and 16 withdrew or suspended the publication of guidelines on future profits. The examples mentioned Walmart, who refused to provide a quarterly profit forecast at the beginning of May and announced that he would raise prices, which was criticized by President Trump.

Volvo Cars, which is one of the most exposed to the American customs of European car manufacturers, withdrew profits for the next two years. United Airlines have published two different forecasts, explaining that it is impossible to predict what a macroeconomic environment will look like this year.

These companies will suffer the most

According to Reuters, the list of companies most strongly affected by Trump's customs will include primarily car manufacturers, airlines and importers of consumer goods. In the case of the automotive industry, the main problem will be tariffs for raw materials and parts, including aluminum and electronics. Customs duties will also increase the costs of assembly of cars, while in the event of the transfer of production to the United States, labor costs will increase.

Another example is the alcohol industry. At the beginning of this month, Diageo – a whiskey producer Johnnie Walker and Tequila Don Julio – announced that by 2028 he intends to reduce costs by $ 500 million and make a significant sale of assets, because 10% duty for imports from places such as Great Britain and the European Union is to cause a decrease in the company's operating profit by $ 150 million per year.

According to the analysis of the Reuters agency during the resulting conferences for the first quarter of 2025, 360 companies from the S&PC index, i.e. 72% of its composition, mentioned duty. For comparison, the quarter was previously talked about in 150 companies. According to the data collected by LSEG, Wall Street expects that the net profit of companies belonging to the S&PC will increase by an average of 5.1% quarterly from April to December, compared to the growth rate of 11.7% a year earlier.
