Children with glittering minds from the end of Romania. Live in a border town and are a phenomenon in the world of artificial intelligence

In a small town at the end of Romania, with a population of only 22,000 inhabitants, there is one of the best performing nests of brilliant computer scientists in the country. There are generations of students who manage to impress nationally in the field of artificial intelligence.

When we talk about school performance in the field of technology, especially in computer science, we think of the great university educational centers, large urban areas such as Cluj, Iașiul or Bucharest. Few would expect that in a small town with 22,000 inhabitants at the end of the country a true “crazy gang” of Romanian computer science would work. And yet, some brilliant rifles from Dorohoi, a small and quiet municipality from Botosani county, manage to break any patterns and prejudices. I make rages at the national competitions of computer science and especially of artificial intelligence, competing without problems and without emotions with the borders of the domain. The computer technique begins to have no secrets for them, and the facilities made available are European level.
The “computer science nest” from “Regina Maria”
The nest of brilliant computer scientists from Dorohoi was born more than a decade ago at the “Maria” High School, an elite school in the north of Moldova, where both children from Botosani, but also from the surrounding villages learn. Here is, first of all, a fantastic human resource, with the famous gene of illuminated minds, specific to Botosani county. If we add a lot of work to the genetic material, but also investments of several hundred thousand euros, then we obtain the “Dorohoi phenomenon”, with many special educational results, Olympic on the treadmill and a world of performance.
“At the” Regina Maria “High School we have special teachers, recognized at national level, students with extraordinary potential but we also benefit from performing educational facilities, obtained with substantial investments”confesses Gabriela Bolohan, director of the “Regina Maria” High School. One of the founders of the performance school in the field of computer science, in Dorohoi, is Professor Petru Oprița. He says that in Dorohoi, special performances have been achieved in the field of computer science, entire generations that have been noticed at national level, at most profile competitions.

“You started 10 years ago, with an extraordinary generation, I cannot help but remind their names: Borșan, Răileanu, Ceaicovschi. They were going and only taking places I, II and III at all the Olympics and competitions. Olympics. Dorohoi ”confesses the computer teacher, Petru Oprița. Along with Petru Oprița, a whole team of teachers who are also part of Mihai Bolohan, Viorel Andrioae and Bogdan Amarie.
Three years of study in one single
There are students at “Regina Maria” who reach a special level in the computer science area. The school syllabus becomes insufficient for the desire to know these children. Teachers confess that there are kids who manage to learn in a single year the subject for three years of study.
“I work hard! For example, in the 9th grade there is a group of four students who have already exceeded the eleventh grade.adds Professor Oprița. Provincialism and the distance from the big university centers, is not an impediment to these extraordinary children. On the contrary, it turns into an asset. They are totally dedicated to the teaching and prints a special determination. “They may have more ambition, more determination. Maybe I see in this a chance to evolve, to reach further ”adds Professor Dorohoian.
Performance Recipe: Eight-Zi hours a day of study
Ștefan Gășpărel is a student in the 9th grade at Regina Maria High School in Dorohoi and already has the first medal at a national Olympics. He managed to obtain the bronze medal at the National Artificial Intelligence Olympiad. He says he wants to pursue a career in the field of computer science.
“It all started at the end of the eighth grade when I discovered C ++ and the algorithmic. Then I developed a lot in this field. I took the bronze medal at the National Artificial Intelligence.says Stefan. In the new generation of Olympics is Tudor Damian. And this year he obtained a bronze medal at the National Informatics Olympiad. His road also started with the C ++ programming language, continued with Python and artificial intelligence. Tudor says performance involves sacrifices and a lot of work.

“The passion for computer science started with the eighth grade where I had just discovered C ++. I discovered, Utleror, Python and the artificial intelligence Olympiad. I prepared for three weeks and got the medal. The performance implies a lot of work, sleepless nights, many hours spent in front of the computer,”Tudor tells us. The Olympians confess that it did not matter that they came from a small city. This thing is ambitious.
“Many very good people in computer science come from Dorohoi. Probably the fact that we are a small city has generated a will and an ambition to develop in as many fields as possible, and computer science is an area of actuality,” says Tudor. “It is true that those in older cities have more possibilities, but determination and work are the ones that earn, at the end.”adds Stefan.
Talent and technology
Teachers who deal with these glittering minds say that performance means work, talent, but equipment is needed. “Work is the word of order. We were fortunate to have a group of talented children around us. The high school management managed to attract valuable children ”says Professor Bogdan Amariei. The “Regina Maria” High School enjoys special facilities, including in the field of computer science, with laboratories equipped with modern technique. Due to the constant performances in the field of computer science, in Dorohoi, in 2022, the Balkan of computer science, one of the most prestigious competitions of this kind, was organized. Students from 11 countries participated.
