The United Arab Emirates recorded on Friday the highest temperature ever recorded in May, from the beginning of the records in 2003 – 51.6 degrees Celsius, according to the National Meteorological Center (NCM), AFP reports, taken over by News.ro.
The desert country has already faced last month with an unusually hot weather, with a maximum record temperature of 42.6 degrees Celsius, which caused the authorities to issue recommendations to the population, urging it in particular to drink a lot of water and to avoid outdoor activities during the hottest hours.
“The highest temperature registered today throughout the country was 51.6 degrees Celsius in Sweihan (Al Ain) at the local time 13.45,” the center said in a message posted on X.
This exceeded the record of 50.4 degrees Celsius established on the previous day in the Abu Dhabi region.
On April 27, the thermometer had reached a maximum of 46.6 degrees, the second highest temperature ever registered for one month April in the country, after a record of 46.9 ° C in April 2012.
The number of extremely warm days almost doubled worldwide in three decades. Scientists have shown that repeated heat waves are an unequivocal indicator of global warming and that these heat waves will multiply, prolong and intensify.
