Fiba announced on Thursday, May 22, that Madrid will host the final phase of the European Basketball Championship in 2029. The tournament will be organized in Spain, Greece, Estonia and Slovenia and it is expected that the opening match will take place on Santiago Bernabeu, the famous Real Madrid stadium.
More than 3 months before Eurobasket 2025, FIBA announced the countries that will organize the European Basketball Championship in 2029. The 43rd edition of this tournament will take place in Estonia, Greece, Slovenia and Spainand the final phase will take place in Madrid.

Madrid will host a group and the final phase of Eurobasket 2029
After the official announcement, Fiba made another post stating that the opening match of the competition in 2029 will take place at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Real Madrid's “jewelry” who has invested over one billion euros for its modernization.
“A new audience record at Eurobasket? To expect 80,000 people to be in the Santiago Bernabeu stands at the Eurobasket 2029 opening match,” Fiba said.
“We are excited to bring Fiba Eurobasket 2029 to some of the most important basketball destinations in Europe, each with a strong basketball culture and a clear dedication to deliver an extraordinary event.“Said Jorge Garbajosa, President Fiba Europe.
“We are just waiting to work closely with the host countries to ensure a successful and memorable tournament for teams, fans and partners,” added the Iberian.
Spain has not hosted a European basketball championship since 2007, when the tournament was held in Alicante, Granada, Madrid, Palma de Mallorca and Sevilla. Spain reached the final, but was defeated by 60-59 by Russia.

3 months left up to Eurobasket 2025
Prior to Eurobasket 2029, on August 27-September 14, 2025, the 42nd edition of the European Championship will take place. This tournament is hosted by Cyprus, Finland, Poland and Latvia, the final phase taking place in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
