Russia is preparing a large -scale cyber attack, warning the Western intelligence services. What will the targets be?

Western intelligence services warn that the Russian Federation is preparing a new campaign of cyber attacks with major disruptive potential, aiming at the logistics infrastructure that provides military support, Reuters reports. According to an alert launched by the UK authorities and the United States and transmitted to the Allies, including Ukraine, GRU affiliated hackers (Russian military intelligence) would target critical sectors such as maritime transport, air control systems and IT companies that manage essential logistics flows in NATO Member States.

“This aggressive, orchestrated cyber campaign[ă] From the Russian military services, it is a real threat to the organizations involved in the support of support to Ukraine, ”said Paul Chichester, the operational director of the National Cyber Security Center in the United Kingdom.
The warning, transmitted by a joint statement signed by the US, France, Germany and other European states, includes concrete recommendations for targeted actors, especially companies in the field of defense, transport and technology. The report encourages the “emergency application of risk mitigation measures” and reviewing digital security protocols.
According to Reuters, Russia concentrates its efforts on the logistics infrastructure that ensures the continuity of armament and equipment deliveries to Ukrainian forces – an area under intense pressure in the context of the prolonged war in Eastern Europe.
This is not the first time that the digital infrastructure of the Allies is targeted. At the beginning of May, the official websites of the Government of Romania, including those of the Ministries of Interior and Justice, were attacked in full electoral process. Also in the same period, Russian hackers claimed to compromise the network of a major Internet provider in Ukraine, trying to induce the idea that local telecommunications operators would have been passed “under Russia's jurisdiction.”
In this tense context, cyber security experts point out that the real stakes of these operations is not only the temporary disturbance of the services, but the weakening of international cohesion in military support.
