John Chambers, the American Tech director who has led the Cisco giant for two decades, says that developments in artificial intelligence (AI) are much faster than many leaders of big companies in the field, Business Insider reports.

“Most leaders are not reinventing themselves,” said Chambers, who was the Cisco CEO between 1995 and 2015, during an interview with Podcast Grit for the episode published Monday. “As a leader in AI, you have to reinvent yourself, in my opinion, every year,” he added.

Chambers, now 75 years old, said this is due to the fact that you advance “in terms of internet” with “a speed of five times higher” and offers “three times more results”.

TECH director stressed that this speed means that companies will have successes and failures faster than ever.

Business Insider journalists comment that the pressure to keep up with the evolution is already feeling in the board of the companies.

More and more companies bet on AI

On Monday, the JPMorgan Chase investment bank has told investors that, starting this year, a smaller part of the $ 95 billion spent annually will go to employment, as it is trying to do more, partially due to AI.

The data from Linkedin show that, in the fall, the employment in the field has increased by 30% faster than the hires in general. LinkedIn estimates that by 2030 70% of the skills needed for most jobs will change because of AI

In some areas, however, changes are much faster.

Dario Amodei, the director of the Anthropic Artificial Intelligence Startup estima in March that until next year most code lines written by programmers will be generated by AI

“I think we will get there in three to six months, when you will write 90% of the code. And then, in 12 months, we could be in a world where you would write, practically, the whole code,” said Amoda at an event organized by the External Relations Council, a Think Tank based in New York.

Jensen Huang, Nvidia CEO, said since February last year that you have evolved so much that parents should no longer put pressure on their children to learn programming.

The former Cisco chief speaks of “Era” AI for companies

But not all tech entrepreneurs and experts are convinced that the rhythm of changes will really be so fast, some saying that these forecasts are far too optimistic for the current AI instruments capabilities

For Chambers, which now runs the JC2 Ventures Risk Investment Company, updating the strategy of a company every two or three years is no longer sufficient. He declared in the interview of Monday that, in this “era” of artificial intelligence, the lack of change simply means “that you do not get any advantage of it, but only run according to the next bright object.”

Reinventing, in its vision, means rethinking everything: from the target market and products, to the way the companies differ and take their products on the market.

Chambers said that an entrepreneur with whom he collaborated with his company 100% from year to year, and still reduced the staff by 10%, because he used you “to change everything”.
