Pope Leon XIV received in the audience on Monday morning the US Vice-President JD Vance, who handed over to the Sovereign Pontiff a letter from President Donald Trump inviting him to Washington, the spokesman of the White House, Karoline Leavitt, announced.

“It was a good meeting, a productive meeting,” Karoline Leavitt said at a press conference, according to Agerpres.

The spokesman said Donald Trump hopes to meet Pope Leon XIV in Washington “as soon as he can come.”

The Vatican released a photo before a photo of Pope Leon XIV, born in Chicago, while receiving JD Vance and US Secretary Marco Rubio, one day after their participation on Sunday, in Saint Peter Square, at the official job that marked the beginning of Leon XIV.

The US Vice -President then had a meeting with Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, “Minister of Foreign Affairs” of the Pope, a Vatican statement announced.

Before becoming a pope, Leon XIV resigned on his personal account on the social network X critics made to the government of US President Donald Trump in relation to his migration policy and also filed reproaches to Vance.

But the US Vice -President insisted on Sunday that the US is “very proud” by the Pope.

“Our prayers accompany him with certainty as he begins this very important mission,” Vance said during a meeting, on Sunday afternoon, with the president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and with the head of the Italian government, Giorgia Meloni.
