Two Romanians were arrested in Switzerland, after entering the empty homes in an evacuated mountain village, to rob them, reports Swissinfo.ch.
The residents of Brienz, a village in eastern Switzerland, were evacuated in November due to landslides, but the locality is under the supervision of the authorities. The system triggered an alarm on Sunday night to Monday, according to the specifications transmitted on Monday morning by the Graubünden Canton.
The local authorities in Albul, from which the village of Brienz belongs, expressed their anger on the incident. Mayor Daniel Albertin said on Monday that the criminals tried to take advantage of the emergency situation in the locality. However, during the evacuation, the residents had taken with them all that they had valuable, reports the Swiss publication.
With the help of drones and canine patrol, the Swiss authorities managed to arrest two Romanians, aged 24 and 36 respectively, after fled to Surava, in the same canton, according to Swissinfo.ch. Police dogs found several stolen goods in the area. Contacted by Keystone-Sda, the police refused to comment on the details exactly, as it is not yet clear to whom they belong or from what house they were stolen.
Currently, the locals from the evacuated village are allowed to enter the village only between 9 and 19.
