The International Committee of the Red Cross (CICR) confirmed on Monday, in a statement, that it facilitated the “full safety” of the Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander from Gaza to Israeli authorities, AFP reports.

“We are relieved that another family could be reunited today. But the nightmare continues for those who are still hostages, their close friends and hundreds of thousands of civilians in the Gaza strip,” said CICR president, Mirjana Spoljaric.

The Ezzedine Al-Qassam brigades, the armed wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, also announced that they had released Edan Alexander, who had been abducted during the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023 in the south of Israel.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the release of the hostage is the result of a “winning combination between Israel's military pressure and President Trump's political pressure.” “This was possible due to our military pressure and the political pressure exerted by President Trump. It is a winning combination,” Netanyahu said, in a video broadcast by his office.

Israel launched a military offensive in Gaza after the attack of October 7, 2023, resulted in the deaths of 1,218 people and the abduction of 251 hostages. According to the Israeli army, 57 people are still held in Gaza, of whom only 23 would be alive.
