“Health comes to you” is a project of the Alliance of Chronic Patients in Romania (APCR) in the fourth edition, in previous editions benefiting from medical services including people who have not been going to the doctor for years or who have never analyzed in their lives. This time the caravan will reach approximately 1,000 patients from eight localities (six counties), two weekends in a row, the project first assuming the movement to collect patients for analyzes from the laboratory, so that on the next weekend they will arrive from several specialties. Cardiovascular diseases and diabetes are particularly targeted, conditions with the highest incidence, but investigations are aimed at other pathologies.
The teams are made up of specialist and residents, nurses and students at post -secondary school, who will consult, inform and educate patients about the risk of these diseases and their complications.
“Too many Romanians in the rural area reach the doctor when it is too late”
This year, the caravan reaches, between May 3 – June 29, 2025, in the following localities: Vedea – Giurgiu, Domnești, Argeș, Unirea and Independence – Călărași, Berzunți – Bacău, Cătina – Buzău, General Scărișoreanu and Țepeș Voda – Constanța.
Investigations include a number of essential medical analyzes and evaluations.
“We will start with the hemogram, the total cholesterol testing, but also its fractions – LDL, HDL and triglycerides. We will check serum glucose and glycate hemoglobin to evaluate the risk of diabetes, as well as serum creatinine, iron and lipid profile to understand the general functioning of the body. The analyzes are complemented by hormonal assessments, such as TSH, but also by consultations with the diabetes doctor, instant blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides, Michigan test (to detect neurological complications), EKG, blood pressure and pulse measurement. In addition, the calculation of the cardiovascular risk and the body mass index is performed-all these steps are part of a prevention and medical education ”, announces the organizers of the event.

“Too many Romanians in the rural area reach the doctor when it is too late. Recent data show that we lose lives due to diseases that can be prevented or kept under control if they are discovered in time. Through this mobile caravan, we carry medicine where it really needs it and we offer the chance to a healthier future for the most vulnerable of us ” says Cezar Irimia, APCR president.
Worrying data: first place in the EU at the mortality rate for treatable causes
The doctors who participated in the previous editions of the project spoke about a scary reality discovered in the field. There are people who have been following the same treatment for years without having been evaluated by the specialist doctor, there are patients who are treated with the drugs recommended by the doctors or other family members and who “adopt” by considering that they have the same disease, there are treatments that are recommended for short periods but which certain patients are given for a long time, etc.
For these reasons and for many others, in addition to medical checks, a very important component of the campaign “Health comes to you” is the information and education of patients, and they will receive information and educational materials about chronic diseases tested, but also about the importance of prevention.
Prevention is important, given that this is how Romania is in the first places in countless unwanted tops. The data published by APCR, which cites the report “Health at a Glance: Europe 2024” published by the European Commission and OECD, indicates the following “Performance”:
● Romania occupies the first place in the European Union regarding the mortality rate due to treatable causes and the antepenultimate place in the number of deaths due to preventable causes.
● The health expectancy in Romania is only 57.8 years, one of the lowest in the European Union.
● Romania has the lowest budget allocation for health per capita among all EU countries with 1,632 EUR PPP per capita, well below the EU average of 3,563 (data from 2022).
● Over a third of the deaths in Romania in 2018, cardiovascular diseases were caused.*
● Life expectancy in Romania is still among the lowest in I (74.2 years vs. 80.6)*
● The prevalence of diabetes was in 2019 by 41% higher compared to 2012 and the tendency of continuous growth is currently. **
● Over 1,500,000 Romanians are treated in the diabetes program, but they are estimated by another million are undiagnosed. **
● The annual rate of obesity increase in Romania for the period 2020-2035 is estimated at 3.1%, higher than that of neighboring countries such as Hungary (2.5%) and Bulgaria (1.3%). ***
The caravan “Health comes to you” is organized by the Alliance of Chronic Patients in Romania in partnership with FABC, Procardio, the association together against obesity, the Romanian Podiatry and Neurodiab Association, who were also joined by pharmacies, drug producers, etc.
