The world isolates Putin
On Friday, May 9 this year. A parade was held on the Czerwony Square in Moscow to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. Several dozen foreign leaders came at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Among the guests were, among others President of China XI Jinping, President of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico and the leader of Brazil Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
– There are allies at Putin. Of course, it is not isolated on a world scale, but it can be said that it is isolated in good company. There was no one from G7, Western Europe and the United States. This is a very clear signal that this aggression on Ukraine has not met with the support of the civilized world – says Dr. Witold Sokała in an interview with Onet.
Our interlocutor indicates that the parade was not a total flap of Vladimir Putin because of the presence of the President of China XI Jinping. – In this way, China sent a clear signal about the alliance and full support for Russia and its policy. However, it is worth noting that for Putin it can also have poor consequences. Undermines the credibility of all maneuvers in the eyes of the United States. If the Trump team really counted on some so -called The maneuver of the inverted Nixon, i.e. dragging Russia to his side, this demonstrative friendship of the leaders of both totalitarian countries should ultimately cure them from illusions – explains an expert on international relations.
At the same time, the good news for the President of Russia was a visit of his counterpart from Brazil, although this is not a special surprise for Dr. Soka.
– Probably the Russians will use this propaganda, pointing to the presence of a serious, politically and economic, state – one of the leaders of the perspective continent, which is Latin America. However, I think Lula da Silva did not feel like such a trip. He could not behave differently, because his leftist voters and Latin American partners probably expected it from him. They would not understand other behavior, so it's a bit of a nod to the popular anti -Americanism continent. Putin will not have specific profits. Brazil economically and strategically cooperates rather with Western countries, so there will be no Russian ally – he explains.
Europe sends an unambiguous signal
Certainly, the visit of the Prime Minister of Slovakia Rober Ficy is striking, especially since at the same time the head of EU diplomacy Kaja Kallas and foreign ministers of the Member States, including The head of Polish diplomacy Radosław Sikorski, were in Ukrainian Lviv.
– The European Union definitely shows which side it is and how Putin treats. Only one Fico breaks out. He can be considered an eccentric policy, but in my opinion it is also a gesture of pragmatism. Slovakia is a specific country, Slovak society is specific. It largely does not share anti -Russian moods. To a large extent, he is not interested in foreign policy to such an extent that you have some emotional attitude towards what is happening. That is why this populist prime minister probably calculated it cynically – that this visit will pay off – emphasizes the journalist of “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna”.
Attention was drawn to the lack of the Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, who is considered one of the closest allies and advocates of Russia in Europe. Officially, the disease is explained, but the list of the absent was longer. There were also President Azerbaijan Ilham Alijew, who at the last moment canceled his visit to Moscow and President Laos Tonglun Sisulita.
According to the expert present at the parade in Mosków, it is difficult to call Vladimir Putin's friends. – They are rather people who pragmatically decided that it is worth doing this gesture, or out of fear, because they are too close and too addicted to Russia, so they had to come. Internal factors in these countries could also be influenced by this. To sum up, a very limited group was present, which, apart from the key leader of China – let's be honest – he can do little. They do not add much to Russian potential. However, this insulation is broken by this Chinese umbrella, which is getting more and more expensive for Russia. The Chinese are counting more and more for taking care of the Putin regime and support – explains Dr. Witold Sokała.
Treaty without much importance?
On Friday, France President Emmanuel Macron and Prime Minister Donald Tusk signed a new Polish-French treaty on strengthened cooperation and friendship, which will replace the currently binding contract of 1991.
Before departure to Nancy, the Polish prime minister assessed that the most important issue for him contained in the Treaty are mutual security guarantees, including a clause about support in the event of a threat. Donald Tusk sees him a chance to enjoy the common defense opportunities. He also noted that the treaty opens the possibilities of cooperation in the matter of the most important defense technologies, including a nuclear umbrella.
According to Dr. Sokała, the new Polish-French treaty will not be as important as politicians present. – This is an important political gesture, giving hope for supporters of building a new security structure in Europe, without Americans. However – elegantly speaking – I would not pay special attention to the real effects of this treaty – says our interlocutor.
