The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs called on the US authorities on Platform X, so that they would not change the name “Persian Bay” to “Arab Bay”. Such activities would be “politically motivated” and very offensive to Iranians around the world – wrote Minister Abbas Aragczi on Wednesday.

The minister emphasized that the name, which defends, is rooted “in the centuries of history and that until the 1960s, both international institutions and regional leaders recognized it.”

“Attempts to change the historically established name (…) point to the hostile intentions aimed at Iran and his people,” said the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasizing that they are dignified.

The movement, as Aragczi said, would not have marked geographical changes or legal weight – reported the Iran International portal, reminding that US President Donald Trump intended to use the term “Arab Bay” during his planned visit to Saudi Arabia.

The Persian Gulf is connected to the Arabian Sea through the Strait of Ormuz and the Bay of the Oman. On its north shore lies Iran – once called Persia – and the southern and west are occupied by Arab countries.

In the 1960s, these countries, increasingly competing with Iran for influence in the region, began to use the term “Arab Bay” (Al-Khalij al-Arabi). The topic swollen from time to time: in 2010, the Iranian Ministry of Transport announced that the airlines must use the “Persian Gulf” designation on flights. It warned that carriers who ignore this request could be deprived of the right to use the routes leading to Iran.

Currently, Arab countries often use the term “Arab Bay” or “Bay”. (PAP)
