The renunciation of essential vitamins can increase the risk of fatigue, cognitive decline, osteoporosis and other age problems. Giving the priority of these essential nutrients helps to support the quality of life up to the third.

Dr. Mamina Turegano, dermatologist, shared what are the three supplements that people over 50 should prioritize due to their extensive health benefits. According to her, vitamin D, omega-3 and probiotics are the ones to be taken, writes Shefinds.

1. Vitamin D.

Vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium. Without a sufficient amount, the bones can become thin, fragile or deformed, increasing the risk of fractures and osteoporosis – especially in postmenopausal women and older adults.

“Vitamin D is more than just a vitamin -it is a hormone that supports immunity, mood, bone resistance and even skin health. Low level of vitamin D is related to fatigue, depression, weak bones and even a weaker immune system. Most people are, unfortunately, even those with excess”, supports Dr. Mamina Turegano.

2. Omega-3

According to the quoted publication, Omega-3 fatty acids are important for people over 50, because they support several age-sensitive systems, especially brain, heart and joints.

“Omega-3s are essential to brain health, bright skin, heart function and reduce inflammation. If you do not eat fat (such as salmon or sardines) at least twice a week, a good supplement based on fish or algae can help you. Omega-3 also supports the concentration, the skin, explains the doctor.

3. Probiotics and prebiotics

Aging can slow down digestion and reduce beneficial intestinal bacteria levels, leading to problems such as constipation, bloating or symptoms of irritable bowel. Probiotics support regularity and improve nutrient absorption.

“Probiotics are the key to the health of the intestines, digestion and bright skin. A high quality probiotic helps maintain the balance of the intestine, which means better digestion, a stronger immunity and a cleaner skin. And do not forget about prebiotics-they feed those good bacteria! Load with foods rich in prebiotics such as garlic, onion and bananas“, Notes Dr. Mamina Turegano.
