The Americans looked at their eyes? Vance: Russia demands too much about the end of the war

Russia demands too much, but I would not say that it is not interested in the end of the war with Ukraine – said on Wednesday the Vice President of the USA JD Vance during the meeting of the Munich Security Conference in Washington. He also added that in the absence of Moscow's consent to a 30-day truce, Washington wants to focus on a “long-term solution”.

“Certainly, the first peace offer that the Russians put on the table was our reaction to it: you demand too much, but that's how negotiations are developing. And I wouldn't say, I'm not so pessimistic yet. I wouldn't say that the Russians are not interested in bringing this matter to the solution” – said Vance in an interview with the former chairman Ischinger.

“I would say that now the Russians are demanding a certain set of requirements, a certain set of concessions to end the conflict, and we think they demand too much” – he added.

Vance also said that Russia considers the American proposal of a 30-day suspension of weapons as contrary to its strategic interest, so the US administration “tries to go beyond obsessed with a 30-day suspension of weapons and focus more on what a long-term solution will look like.” He noted that the next step he is striving for is to take direct talks between Ukraine and Russia, although he noted that there are many hostility and mutual claims between them.

“The frustration, which we honestly feel in relation to both sides, is that they hate each other so much that if you talk for an hour with one of the parties, the first 30 minutes take them only to complain about some historical harm before four, five or ten years ago” – said the vice president. “We think that if cool heads win here, we will be able to bring this matter to a durable room, which will be economically beneficial for both Ukrainians and Russians,” he added.

Vance: Trum wants the end of the war for humanitarian reasons

Speaking of the approach of President Donald Trump to negotiate, Vance emphasized that his desire to end the war results from the “humanitarian impulse”; He also said that even if he disagrees with the Russian justification of the full -scale invasion, you need to understand Russian motivation.

In an interview as part of the Munich Leaders Meeting conference in Washington Vance, he also commented on talks about customs in which he took a leading role in administration. He declared that the Trump administration is “very, very” involved in his idea of changing the status quo in international trade and switching balance in a way that would be beneficial to American employees.

Vance about the European Union

In the context of negotiations with the European Union, Vance stated that the United States is about that American exporters would be “better treated” to open the EU market to agricultural products from the US, but also to cooperate with American companies in the matter of building defense capabilities.

When asked about the US expectations of NATO allies, Vance said that, apart from raising defense expenditure, it is important that European countries were able to produce weapons and be ready to defend themselves.

“We really want Europe to be self -sufficient (…) I think it is an area in which we are essentially right and I think it is happy that so many of our European friends see it and recognizes that Europe really has to play a greater role in the continental defense” – he said. “I think we are all agreeing in this matter. It's all about getting there, and most importantly to get there quickly” – he added.

Vance softened his criticism of Europe and allegations of suppression of democracy and freedom of speech in February in February in Munich.

“Each country claims that there are things that go beyond the sphere of political debate (…) I accept it and I don't mind that one country will set these limits a bit differently than the United States, but I think that we all, especially the United States, we must think not to set bounds in such a way that we will actually undermine the democratic legitimacy, where our entire civilization is based” – he said.

Iranian atomic button

Vance also talked about the US conversations on the Iranian nuclear program, assessing that negotiations in this matter are going well. He noted that the administration “does not care” whether Iran will have a civil nuclear energy program, but he cannot have a uranium enrichment program above these needs.

“We believe that a contract is possible that will again include Iran in the world economy. It would be really good for the Iranian people, but would result in the complete ceasefire that they will obtain nuclear weapons” – said the US Vice President.
