The President of Azerbaijan at the last moment refused to participate in the parade in Moscow

Over 20 leaders are to take part in the ceremonies in Moscow. Among them are the chairman of the People's Republic of China, XI Jinping, President of Belarus Aleksander Łukaszenko, Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Paszynian, Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam is Lam and the President of Brazilia Luiz Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.
The last time Ilham Alijew was at the Parade of Victory in Moscow ten years ago – in 2015. In March this year, the press services of the presidents of Azerbaijan and Russia confirmed that Alijew accepted the invitation of Vladimir Putin to participate in the celebrations.
The invitation was adopted in the context of a clear cooling of bilateral relations between Moscow and Baku. The reason was the disaster of the Azal Azal passenger aircraft in December 2024, in which 38 people were killed.
The aircraft was hit by the Russian air defense system over the Grozny, and then he was refused an emergency landing at Russian airports. Ultimately, the plane headed to Kazakhstan, where it crashed near Aktau. Alijew accused the Russian side of the desire to cover up the incident and attempts to hide the fact of the attack with the help of “nonsense versions” about the event.
