Emma Răducanu (22 years old, 49 WTA) offered an interview for the British press, before the Rome tournament, in which she talked about how her life was changed after winning the US Open, about how she trusts the people around and about the collaboration with Mark Petchey, her new coach.
Emma Răducanu is preparing for the duel with Maya Joint (19 years, 78 WTA), from the first round of WTA 1000 Rome. The British is accompanied in the capital of Italy by Mark Petchey and Jane O'Donoghue.
Emma Răducanu: “In recent years, it was difficult to trust new people”
After a complicated period, in which Răducanu changed several coaches, this seems to be satisfied with how the collaboration with Petchey arises.
“Mark was already there, comment, and I met him on the hall in Miami, in Dolphins' stadium. There is someone I trust. I was talking and I was afraid to ask for his help. And he did not want to self -proponed. So I was something like “Hey, could you help me?”. And he told me he would help me. That's how it started, “explained the 22 -year -old player, quoted by The Guardian.
Răducanu revealed that, over time, it was difficult to trust people and, especially after winning the US Open, when many wanted to gravitate around her. Some unpleasant experiences have made the sportswoman with Romanian father and a Chinese mother.
“In recent years, it was difficult to trust new people, especially those who did not know me before the US Open. Now I gravite around the people I knew before and I would say that my circle is smaller than ever. I was so protected.
Until 18, I was only with my parents, they helped me with anything, nothing could touch me. Suddenly, afterwards, a lot came and I burned several times, both professionally and personal. Now I am like Fort Knox about those I leave in my life, ”said Răducanu.
Emma Răducanu: “A part of me does not like to talk too much about problems”
“I am a person who holds things for her and it takes a lot of effort to open me. I did not open up to many people throughout my life but, honestly, in those I trust, I really have. Once I left someone in my life, I leave it fully and I care a lot. I burned a few times.
Some people I trusted surprised me, but I think that's life. I still have extraordinary people around me I trust. One part of me does not like to talk too much about problems, because it only amplifies them. I think I learn to accept the day as it comes and choose the discipline above what I feel, ”she added.
The last period was complicated for Emma Răducanu, who did not achieve the results of the past. This season, the best performance is represented by the quarterfinals in Miami, where the winner of the US Open in 2021 was defeated by 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2 by Jessica Pegula.
Before coming to the Italian Open, Răducanu participated in Mutua Madrid Open and lost in the second round, in front of Marsa Kostyuk: 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.
