Volvo Cars officially started the production of its flagship electric SUV EX30 at the European factory in Ghent. This is a strategic decision strengthening the brand's position on the EV market and responding to the growing demand for sustainable mobility.

A few months after the debut in 2023, Volvo EX30 became one of the most popular electricians in Europe. Until now produced only in China, since the end of April 2024 it is also established at the Belgian Volvo Cars factory in Ghent. This is an important moment for both the concern and the European automotive market, which focuses more and more on local production of zero -emission cars.
– The EX30 model is of great importance for Volvo Cars in the context of further strengthening of the position on the European electric market for premium class cars – emphasizes Francesca Gamboni, director of the production and supply chain of Volvo Cars. – Investment in European production EX30 in Ghent is perfectly part of our long -term strategy, according to which we build cars where they sell best. Our flexible, global production network increases the company's resistance to a variable situation in the markets and allows us to quickly adapt our plans to it.
EUR 200 million investments and new jobs
Preparation of the plant in Ghent for the production of EX30 required modernization of EUR 200 million. As part of it, a new production platform was created, almost 600 modernized robots were installed, the battery hall was expanded and new assembly lines were launched. Thanks to this, the factory gained greater flexibility and performance.
The start of EX30 production in Europe is also associated with the creation of 350 new jobs, which increases employment in the plant to nearly 6,600 people. – We managed to shorten the implementation time of the model by half – says Stefan Fesser, director of the factory in Ghent. – We proudly welcome EX30 on our production line, showing that modern technologies and innovations allow us to react flexibly to the needs of the market.
Strengthening the European industry EV
The Volvo Cars decision is part of the EU strategy of sustainable development and increasing the competitiveness of the European industry. Currently, ten electrical and hybrid models of the brand are produced at the plants in Ghent and Torsland (Sweden), and another factory is being built in Slovakia.
EX30 is not only a compact SUV, but also the cheapest electric Volvo, which makes it a key model in the brand's offer. In the second half of 2024, the EX30 Cross Country version will also join the production, expanding the range with a more off -road variant.
The factory in Ghent, operating since 1965, is today the only fully developed car production plant in Belgium. In addition to EX30, the EX40, EC40, XC40 and V60 models are also created there. In 2024, over 186,000 left her line. aut.
