Tsunami alert following an earthquake near the southern coast of Argentina and Chile

An earthquake with the magnitude of USGS estimated at 7.4 occurred on Friday, 10 kilometers deep, near the southern coast of the states agentin and chile, which triggered a tsunami alert. The epicenter of the earthquake is approximately 219 km from the Argentine city Ushuaia.

The earthquake occurred at local time 8:58 (15:58, Romania time), and within one hour it was followed by four magnitude replicas over 5, writes News.ro.
According to the Chilean national television, the authorities requested the evacuation of the coastal area in the Magallanes region due to the threat of a tsunami.
Estimates are that seismic waves could reach a height of up to 3 meters and can affect Antarctica. The earthquake occurred in the Drake Passage, between Cape Horn and Antarctica.
The city of Ushuaia, from the extreme south of Argentina, has a population of over 80,000 inhabitants.
