China's relations with the European Union bring priceless stability to the global economy – the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing assessed on Wednesday. The Chinese side is striving to strengthen the relationship with the Union in the context of the ongoing trade war from the USA and the EU-China peak planned for July.

“China and the EU complement each other in terms of strengths in economic and commercial cooperation, which brings mutual benefits and (creates) situations beneficial to both sides,” said spokesman for the Chinese ministry of diplomacy Guo Jiakun during a press briefing.

“The EU and China, as one of the main world economies, in the current situation jointly support a multilateral trade system and promote liberalization and trade facilitation,” he said.

He also referred to reports of the planned abolition of Chinese sanctions imposed on members of the European Parliament and his human rights subcommittee. He did not directly confirm this information, but added that the EU relations show – as he said – “positive dynamics”, and European Parliamentarians are welcome in China.

In 2021, China covered the sanctions of five MEPs and the PE subcommittee for human rights in response to Western restrictions against Chinese officials accused of mass persecution and prison of Utgur in the Sinciang region.

In addition, the EU-China summit is to take place in July in July. According to some commentators, the fact that the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and the chairman of the European Council Antonio Costa will visit the capital of China – although, according to the protocol, this time the summit should take place in Brussels – she signals the determination of the community for re -involvement in relations with Pekin in the face of the customs war.

China is the only country against which the US has not suspended the previously announced tariffs; Currently, they amount to 145 percent In turn, the EU was first covered by a 20 % rate, but later the administration of US President Donald Trump decided to suspend these duties for 90 days.

The European Commission, which in response suspended the retaliation duties, is currently conducting talks with Washington regarding the resolution of the dispute and is counting on the negotiating of the agreement until mid -July.
