Ionuț Pucheanu, the mayor of Galați, announced that the steel arena will enter a process of expansion and modernization after the institution he runs will become the owner of the sports base that currently belongs to those from Liberty. The arena would have 18,000 seats.
According to the first calculations, the reconfiguration of the stadium from Otelul would cost at least 30 million euros and could take 4-5 years, according to Pro Lider FM.
Otelul stadium will enter the process of modernizing
“The municipality is in advanced negotiations with the Liberty Administration to take over the stadium, in the account of the debts that the steel company has towards the local budget.
We already have a feasibility study, which has outlined us in the sea what the Otelul Stadium could look like after modernization. To extend up to a maximum of 18,000 seats, another ring with covered stands will be built, over what we currently have.
Between the current ring and the one that will be built, there will be a space for utilities and I mean toilets, public food and everything that is necessary and mandatory on a modern stadium that wants to obtain UEFA license ”, announced Ionuț Pucheanu, for the source quoted above.

“The current VIP stand will be demolished and rebuilt, as well as the 0 and 1 stands, which must be adapted to the licensing conditions. According to the study by the City Hall, the cantonment and recovery base from the stadium will be demolished and rebuilt, which will be extended and modernized to the licensing standards. And last but not least, a two -level underground parking will be built at the stadium.
