Arina – “Urvi Coast”
On this day, three martyrs of the Solunsky are honored – the sisters of Agapia, Hionia and Irina. According to legend, pious sisters, along with other Christians, hid in the mountains from the persecution of Emperor Diocletian, however, in the end, they were seized and brought to court.
Women were offered to renounce faith, but they refused. On the very first day, Agapia and Khionia were burned, and the rest were imprisoned to give the opportunity to change their minds. After the next interrogation, the ruler ordered Irina to be taken to a brothel, but there no one dared to touch the righteous man. After that, the martyr was executed.
To Irinin (Arinin), the river day begins to enter their normal channels, leaving blurry shores and ravines. The people said: “Arina – Urvi shores!”, Thus recalling the danger of the collapse of the coast, washed with floods.
It was customary for Arina to engage in seedlings. Planting young cabbage, peasant women sentenced: “Do not be a golemen, be a puzat; if you were not empty, be tight; if it was not red, be tasty.” Such spells existed for each vegetable. It was believed that after this day several sunny should follow, so the seedlings quickly grow. According to the behavior of seedlings, they also tried the future of the haymaking: if young plants actively drink watering, it will be on dry days.
