Speaking for CBS, Lavrov said that Russia has not received such a proposal, but that it will reject it if it will be offered. He said that the power plant remains under the control of the Rosatom State Corporation in Russia, being monitored by the staff of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“The plant is in safe hands,” Lavrov said, accusing Ukraine of repeated attacks on the installation. Kiev made similar charges against Moscow.
The Russian forces captured the plant in early 2022, during the large -scale invasion of Ukraine.
In March, the White House said President Donald Trump told Ukrainian president Volodimir Zelenski that US control over Ukrainian nuclear power plants would provide “the best protection.” Zelenski replied that the plants belong to the Ukrainian people, not to the private owners.
Earlier this month, Western media reported that a proposal of the Trump Administration for a peaceful resolution of the war would keep the power station in Ukraine, but under American control, providing electricity both Ukraine and Russia.
US President Donald Trump expressed his disappointment with the Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin on the Kiev missile attack and said he is not sure that the Russian dictator wants to end the war.
The head of the White House told this at Fox News before leaving New Jersey.
“I think the meeting went well. Let's see what happens in the coming days. Maybe we'll learn a lot.” We were very disappointed that rockets were coming from Russia', said Trump.
He stressed that Putin should demonstrate his willingness to end the war.
“I want him to stop shooting, sit at the negotiation table and sign an agreement,” Trump said. -“I think we have a framework agreement and I want him to sign him, to put an end to the war and return to normal life.”
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said that this week will be decisive in negotiations for the end of the Ukraine.
